Rebuilding Together Acadiana is dedicated to using sustainable and green construction practices in our work. Our Energy Efficiency Outreach initiative promotes responsible energy use by educating homeowners on the importance of preserving resources, and provides assistance in making energy efficiency repairs to alleviate the burden of utility costs on low–income homeowners.
But, after all, Home Rehabilitation is inherently Green!
Aside from preserving our environment for future generations, efficient home maintenance saves homeowners money on utilities, creates a healthier home environment, and improves the quality of life for all who live there.
And, did You Know?
- Low-income households spend an average of 14% of their income on energy, compared to about 3.5% in most other households.
- The average home produces twice the greenhouse gases as the average car.
- 15% of all greenhouse gases are generated from the energy used in houses nationwide.
- Indoor air pollution can often be 4 to 5 times higher than outdoor air pollution.
Effectively updating and maintaining the homes that exist today is an important part of creating the world we will want to live in tomorrow. RTA is dedicated to assisting homeowners in this effort. Click here for tips on Green Housing and Energy Efficiency from Rebuilding Together.
